EA Canada's FIFA 10 has thrashed opposition in the UK all-format charts during the week ended October 3.
The launch of the revamped football sim is the most successful since that of Grand Theft Auto IV and the second largest in UK chart history. It's also a 48 per cent improvement on that of its predecessor, FIFA 09, and bigger than that of GTA: San Andreas. That launch, however, was exclusive to PS2 whereas FIFA 10 arrives on six platforms.
Falling from the top spot was Halo 3: ODST, which suffered a 75 per cent sales drop to land at number three, leaving Level-5's Professor Layton And Pandora's Box stable at number two. EA's other franchise revival, Need For Speed: Shift, moves down a place to number four.
A 33 per cent jump in sales of Wii Sports Resort can be attributed to a £179.99 hardware bundle which also launched last week. Conversely, the arrival of the UMD version of Gran Turismo PSP at number twelve can be blamed on the launch of PSPGo, with its purchase incentive of a free downloadable copy.
PS3 exclusive Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, meanwhile, was a new entry at number 26, three spots higher than Deep Silver RPG Risen.

A possible addition would to simply release DLC with team updates etc. £4.99 for this? I'd pay it. Fifa 10 is very good and I can't see how much can be improved upon till they go back to the release for release sake circus they got into a few years back (and with many other EA titles). I'd like to see team specific chants, a DLC pack for this would also be sufficient.
It's good to see that EA's focus on quality is being rewarded with sales.
Given that FIFA was a title spoken of with disdain not so long ago, the turnaround is staggering, and credit has to go to Vancouver. The only worry for me is that with FIFA 10 being the end point of the teams aims, where will this leave next years entry?
