FIFA 10 has sold more than 4.5 million units worldwide since launch, which comes in as a 26 per cent increase over the same period a year ago (eight weeks in Europe and five weeks in North America), EA has reported.
The publisher has also reported that the title became “the fastest-selling sports videogame in the world” with 1.7 million units sold at European retail in its first week after launch on October 1. FIFA 10 is the top selling game overall in Europe so far this year, says EA.
EA Sports boss Peter Moore recently expressed delight with FIFA 10’s critical and commercial reception in Japan.
Online figures for the game have also achieved new franchise records with an average of three million games played daily and over 113 million total games played online via PS3 and 360 in the past two months.
The publisher is now concentrating on the launch of FIFA 10 Ultimate Team in 2010, which is described as a “deeper, more authentic, more dynamic version of the game mode successfully introduced last year that enables fans to customize the way they build their Ultimate Team.” This will be available to purchase for 400 Microsoft points or $4.99 via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in February.
