Nintendo Of America president asks 'Who's it for?' and 'What's the benefit?' of Sony’s PSP refit.

Speaking with the Washington Post, Fils-Aime said of the download-only handheld, "I have the utmost respect for all our competitors, but it's interesting to try and answer the consumer question of 'What's in it for me?' in that product."

Asked about the growing strength of the iPhone for gaming and the low prices that Apps command on the App Store, he claimed that the DS still offers experiences that the iPhone cannot, citing Scribblenauts, Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros as examples.

And, as you might expect, he maintained that Nintendo is not planning a phone device around its hardware. "We don't have a desire to get into the phone space. We think the game business is competitive enough."

I see the market, but not at the price it's being sold at. Here in NZ it's $150 more than the $330 PSP-3000. Also Sony seem to have forgotten we need digital content here too, since it doesn't have a UMD drive. I'm yet to find a PSP title I really want available for download on our PSN.

I think the DSi is a bit of a fail also however. DSiWare. What is that? However the retarded ads they used to market it seem to have found their audience. According to the rhetoric the PSPgo seems to be actually selling too.

In fairness to Sony, there is a market for it, I just don't think it's a very big one at that price.

Personally, I don't see any reason to buy the Go! over the 3000 and a big memory stick, given the difference in price. The previous models are perfectly capable of playing the new Mini's for example, you can download any of the full titles, and still have the option of UMD if you so wish.

Unless you are desperate for a smaller machine, I couldn't really recommend it over the 3000.

The relocation of the analog button is a big feature, for me anyway.

Ok, the PSPGo certainly isn't going to win anyone over who are happy with their 3000's. Nor is it going to win anyone, yet to buy a machine, who don't mind the original location of the button.

But for people like me who couldn't play the original for this reason, UMD or no, it's nice to have that alternative. At the moment, I'm just playing a waiting game till it comes to around 130 quid.

You could say the same for the DSi, as that system isn't a must have item if you already have the DSL. And don't say DSiWare, as we all know there is fuck all on it to even justify the DSi's existence.

Both the PSPGo/DSi fail in that respect...

I thought in a some what way like you(in regards to DSi) But then i saw footage of a game yet to be released though i cant remember the the tittle, but this dude held his DSi walking around his house looking at his screens, and with the camera's working he was viewing his home on screen, and this creature apeared from BEHIND the image of his fire place on screen(of course there was no creature behind the actaul fire place!) and he somehow had to capture the creature! It looked amazing and i couldn't believe Nintendo did it again(found a new way to interact with games) though to be fair,it must have been a thirdparty developed game on the account that i have seen the same game for psp, but the DSi of course has the upper hand over the psp's and varients that the cameras are built in where's you have to buy the camera on psp to play, unless it of course retails with game, but you get my point! Has for DSi ware, dude, give it a chance! The DSi has considerably more graphical muscle than DSlite (but still no match for the psp) and DSi games specificaly made for DSi will be significantly better looking than the last gen DS. Just got to wait i guess for the game developers to jump on board and and get making em!

Very true. At least the DSi still takes DS cartridges though.
If Sony had managed to cram in a UMD drive to the Go and kept the same price they would have really shifted some units.

And STILL NO duel analogue controllers! On the psp go there are the start and select buttons in a "well" on the casing just like the lonely analogue stick to the left is...couldn't they have put start & select by the side of the screen, and where they currently are, put a second analogue? Still it wont be as good as Nintendo's touch screen D.Pad combo, but it would be great playing "Ghost in the shell stand alone complex" with out having to aim with /_\ , [ ], O and X (you couldn't even change the settings to walk with the buttons and aim with the analogue!)

His words may annoy the Sony Fanboys, but you've got to admit he's got a point

(a) worst picture ever, bet he loves that one.

(b) he could not be more right, god forbid Sony did market research into what people actually want
