Final Fantasy XIII Drops 2009 Western Release

While company president Yoichi Wada claims Square Enix will miss its profit targets for the next fiscal year.

Final Fantasy XIII will not arrive in North America or the UK at least until April 2010, according to Square Enix president Yoichi Wada.

In an interview with Reuters, Wada explained that the latest edition to the Final Fantasy series is still on-track for its 2009 release in Japan, yet he confirmed that the Western release would arrive in the following year.

Square Enix had previously stated that no work will go into porting FFXIII to the Xbox 360 until after the game is launched in Japan, with both editions not undergoing localization until after that date.

FFXIII remains a PS3 exclusive in Japan.

Meanwhile, Wada also claimed that Square Enix is likely to miss its profit target of ¥50 billion for the year ending March 2011, though he remained optimistic that the thirdparty giant is faring well in light of the recession that Japan is in.

“The sluggish economy has not hurt us that much yet,” he said, adding that “it's going to be tough. Just when we are trying to boost our overseas sales, the yen is getting firmer.”
