Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIII will release for PS3 on December 17 in Japan.
The game will retail for 8,800 yen ($95 / £58), Square Enix president Yoichi Wada confirmed this morning at a Final Fantasy event.
While the title will be exclusive to PS3 in Japan, it is to release for both PS3 and Xbox 360 in the west. Square Enix said that it hopes to launch the game in the west within six to eight months, according to 1UP.
The game’s producer, Yoshinori Kitase, previously stated that the western version of the title would be released in spring 2010. Approached for comment, a Square Enix Europe spokesperson told us: "We plan to announce the Western release timing of Final Fantasy XIII in the very near future.”
SCE president Kaz Hirai also took to the stage in Japan to reveal that a PS3 Final Fantasy XIII hardware bundle is being planned, although no concrete details were announced.
Final Fantasy XIII, which was the subject of the lead feature in Edge 201, is the latest title in Square’s 85 million-selling RPG franchise.
