X-Men’s Sentinel reunites MVC2’s most powerful team; Darkstalkers’s Hsien-Ko makes the cut too.
Capcom has announced the final two characters to be included in fighting sequel Marvel Vs Capcom 3 ahead of its release next month.
Darkstalkers’ Chinese zombie Hsien-Ko and X-Men’s mutant-hunting robot Sentinel are the final two characters to be announced, giving players a choice of 36 characters, with more planned as DLC.
Hsien-Ko is the third Darkstalkers fighter to be included in the game – joining Felicia and Morrigan – but Sentinel’s belated inclusion is arguably the more significant.
As one of the top tier characters in Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Sentinel was part of one of the most common, and most overpowered, teams used in tournament play. MSS – Magneto, Sentinel and Storm – is now a viable option for Marvel Vs Capcom 3 as well.
However, Capcom has gone to great lengths in an attempt to make MVC3 more of a fair fight than the notoriously imbalanced MVC2, which had 56 playable characters and thousands of possible team combinations. Traditionally overpowered characters have had their movesets adjusted to offer a more balanced – though still chaotic as ever – experience.
With the final character roster revealed and more information forthcoming about the game’s development – such as our recent interview with producer Ryota Niitsuma – it’s worth noting that last month’s Twitter leaks about the game have almost entirely been proven true.
Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 18.
