Hellgate: London developer Flagship Studios has formed a joint venture that will support online game hosting and digital distribution.
Ping0 is the result of a joint venture between Flagship and Korean game company HanbitSoft. The new joint venture recently signed an agreement with Namco Bandai "to digitally distribute, host and manage the online component" of the upcoming Hellgate: London.
Flagship CEO and co-founder Bill Roper further explained the purpose of the online service. “Supporting Hellgate: London is just the beginning for Ping0. We fully expect Ping0 to both handle the online components and digitally distribute all of Flagship’s future titles. The company will also provide publishers and developers that want to bring their games online with a solution proven by one of the most highly anticipated titles in the industry.”
HanbitSoft is the Korean distributor of Blizzard’s StarCraft, and both publishes and develops games. HanbitSoft executive VP Tony Park said that although the RPG Hellgate: London is a core gamer-targeted product, a variety of games will be distributed through Ping0.
"Through Ping0, we will offer a turn-key solution for developers and publishers developing online games, from sophisticated MMOs to casual games," Park said. "Additionally, we are extremely excited about bringing our own titles to new markets through this joint venture.”
Ping0 will also handle the online gaming destination for Hellgate: London.
