The demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has become the fastest on record to hit one million Xbox Live downloads, according to publisher LucasArts.

The demo was downloaded more than 1 million times in the eight days following its release, beating the previous record by one day, LucasArts said Thursday.

Too Human held the previous Xbox Live demo download record.

It has now been downloaded more then 2.3 million times from Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

The Xbox 360 version of The Force Unleashed currently has a Metascore of 71 based on five reviews. It’s out on September 16 in North America and three days later in Europe for all major home and portable consoles.

LucasArts has also announced that a demo of terrain-deforming action title Fracture will launch on XBL and the PSN on September 18.

Xbox Live Gold requirement for teh fail! So I downloaded it and the Mercs 2 demo on PSN instead :) Idiots. If you want me to buy your game, you need to provide me with a playable demo. If you throw up artificial barriers, I'm buying it on the other guy's console.

Six & a half years of Gold was enough for me; I just don't have the time or energy to get into multiplayer games these days. Maybe I'll reconsider when my kids are older & I can play M-rated games sometime other than after 9PM, and when I'm not fixing up the house to sell in a dead market, and when I'm not working OT on some project at work...

I played the demo, and I'll say this much:

The demo is infinitely cooler to watch than to play.

It's cool watching all this stuff happen on the screen, but with a weak control scheme, repetetive button mashing, no real multiplayer opportunities and a horrible AI I think I'll wait till it hits the $20 bargain bin before I pick it up.

After playing the demo, once......twice......three times four.... I can honestly say that I think Lucasarts have Hit the nail right on the head with this one. It is DEFINATLY NOT a Star wars game for 12 year olds. All my gaming work colleges are excited about this game and we are all mid 20's onwards.

People want flashy Lightsaber action.
People want to be a jedi with powers.

The only risk this game has is if it doesnt do much else that what is shown in the demo just in different locations. I generally dont read reviews because well, i have my own opinion and cash and thats all that matters.

I must admit though, the whole "hit X" "hit O" thing isnt quite so desirable as it seems to break the gameplay action. Still I can forgive the game since in my opinion it is incredibly entertaining for a Star Wars game.

Bravo Lucasart. Bravo

Well, it's Star Wars, isn't it? I downloaded the demo because I had to have a look, despite my doubts about the game itself. Sure enough - it's yet another Star Wars game for 12 year-olds (but that's who Lucas makes Star Wars for, right?), so no surprises there, then. I played the demo for - oh, I guess twenty minutes so, before quitting out through sheer boredom.

I'm still waiting for a worthy Star Wars video game. Funnily enough, it seems to be the one thing LucasArts seem inexplicably unable to produce...
