Previously, the two studios had fallen under the umbrella of Amaze Entertainment, and were all referred to as Amaze studios, although they had different locations.
Fizz Factor is based in Austin, Tex., and handheld studio Griptonite is located in Kirkland, Wash. A third, separate console-centric Kirkland studio will retain the Amaze Entertainment name.
Foundation 9 believes that by reinstating the original names of the studios, it will reflect the autonomy of the development houses.
"Each of our studios has its own unique culture and specialties," said Steve Ettinger, the studio VP who oversees Fizz Factor, Griptonite and Amaze Entertainment.
He said that the rebranding will also reduce confusion for clients and consumers, and "really enable our team members to feel great ownership in their studio name and identity."
Griptonite is currently working on no less than 11 games for handheld, Fizz Factor has four unannounced games in the works and Amaze is developing four console titles based on film and comic book properties.
