Microsoft is rumoured to be working on an Xbox 360 motion sensing peripheral that detects full body movements.
According to Engadget, the device comes in the form of a sensor bar featuring two sensors, a microphone and a camera. It is said to detect both movements and sounds without the use of game controllers, and enable players to use full body and hand gestures to control supported games.
Microsoft has been heavily linked to a potential acquisition of 3DV Systems, a motion-detection interface company, over the past few months.
In response to the Engadget story, the firm told our sister site CVG that it doesn’t comment on rumour and speculation.
Sony offered a similar response last week following reports that it is preparing to unveil a new motion sensing controller for PlayStation 3 at this year’s E3 in June.
I sincerely hope this is true. I predicted MS's acquisition of 3DV would play into E3 this year. I want the 360 to shake things up in the gaming industry but putting a serious challenge out to Nintendo. I can't wait to see what fighting and sports games might use this. Too ambitious? Yeah! Maybe a good platformer but definitely not a party game.
isnt that hard to say that before we even really know how it will work? people said the same things about sixaxis and even about the wii...
if console companies can find the right way to do it and game developers use the technology in interesting ways we might find it to be less "gimmicky" and more innovative than we think.
im all up for trying new things. especially if it makes my games more interactive than they already are...
but then again, i just love games...
these will be barely used gimmicks for both the 360 and PS3.
