Speaking at a tech event in Washington, Valve president Gabe Newell suggested the next revolution in home consoles might come from Apple.
"I suspect Apple will launch a living room product that redefines people's expectations really strongly and the notion of a separate console platform will disappear," he told the attending audience.
Newell was also vocal on the danger of the way platform holders currently conduct themselves, saying many "view themselves as more [landlords] who are essentially driving their partner margins to zero", whereas their role used to be to enable developers.
He then took aim at Apple's current App Store model, and its closed nature: "I consider Apple to be very closed," he said. "Let's say you have a book business and you are charging five to seven per cent gross margins. You can't exist in an Apple world because they want 30 percent and they don't care that you only have seven percent to play with."

2Gabe Newell: Apple is the future of home computing including video game consoles. Also, Apple is the worst because developers and publishers can't make money from putting their content on Apple content delivery systems. *head explodes*
Gabe likes to have his cake and eat it.
