The Game Critics Awards, an independent organization that includes journalists from a multitude of media outlets, has announced the nominees for its 2008 best of E3 awards.

The Game Critics Association is comprised of journalists from both enthusiast outlets like GameSpot and major media outlets including Time and The Washington Post. Edge-Online sibling publications GamesRadar and PC Gamer also have journalists in the Association.

LittleBigPlanet (pictured) led the pack this year with five nominations, while Gears of War 2 and Left 4 Dead each picked up four. Fallout 3, Mirror’s Edge and Spore each picked up three, as did Resistance 2. Electronic Arts picked up the most nods as a publisher with 21—SCEA came in second with just 11, while Microsoft received seven and Nintendo just three.

The winners from this list will be announced on August 5.
