Game signs second cloud gaming deal

Cloud gaming company CiiNOW has inked a new deal with Game that will see the UK retailer trial CiiNOW’s proprietary Cumulus streaming tech to offer customers access to a range of “console-class” titles on almost any device.

Games will be made available to play on the retailer’s website, and if a series of managed trials go well, then the service will become a permanent part of Game’s offering.

The deal echoes Game’s Gaikai partnership, which it announced last March, and it is unclear what’s happening with that arrangement, or how the CiiNOW deal will affect things. We’ve contacted Game for comment.

“GAME has been the place to get great video game content in the UK, and we are excited to support their ambition to provide customers with a device-agnostic, immersive gaming experience,” said CiiNOW CEO and co-founder Ron Haberman in a press release. “With the incorporation of CiiNOW’s cloud-based technology, GAME’s customers will now experience instant gaming like never before.”

Game CEO Martyn Gibbs added, “As the face of gaming changes, it’s vital that we stay at the forefront. We believe in providing our customers with access to great games in every gaming arena and these trials will help shape how we do that. By using CiiNOW’s scalable cloud-based gaming technology, we will be able to offer our broad customer base an instant and exciting entertainment experience.”
