Middleware provider Emergent Game Technologies has released Gamebryo 2.6, an updated version of its popular game engine.
The engine’s upgrades heavily focus adding greater options for the Wii as well as DirectX10 development for higher performance on next-gen platforms. The most notable tweak to the engine is in the animation system, which has been refactored for up to 40 percent memory and performance gains on modern hardware.
“Gamebryo is the only engine used worldwide in more than a dozen different genres on current console and PC platforms,” said a company release. “The introduction of Gamebryo 2.6 is part of the company’s plan to be an essential driver in advancing the way games are made.”
The engine is said to feature extended support for Wii-specific texture formats, more efficient exports and reduced memory requirements. It also provides FX support for developers creating for DirectX10, featuring new geometry shaders and stream-out buffers.
"Gamebryo enables developers to get cross-platform titles to market quickly no matter what type of game they are making. We have architected Gamebryo for the next 2 generations of Game Development and 2.6 is just the beginning," says Emergent Game Technologies CEO Geoffrey Selzer.
"Our flexible, modular and extensible architecture means that our customers and partners can customize and expand Gamebryo’s capabilities to their needs easily, quickly and with confidence of stability. This saves them time and money while reducing risk."
