Mobile gaming publisher Gameloft has announced a multiplatform deal with Epic Games to use its Unreal Engine 3 in four games.
Gameloft intends to release the games in the next two years on iOS, Android, PlayStation Network and set-top boxes.
Julien Fournials, VP of production at Gameloft, said the firm was “very pleased to partner with Epic, especially with their ability to stay ahead of the curve and continually place the best game engine technology in developers’ hands.
“Using Unreal Engine 3 allows us to push game visuals with remarkable lighting and high-fidelity environments. We are confident that players will enjoy the games powered by Unreal Engine 3.”
Epic Games VP Mark Rein said: “There is no doubt that the four games running on Unreal Engine 3 will be visually stunning and take advantage of the powerful mobile gaming device. We are thrilled to provide our technology to Gameloft and look forward to a lasting collaboration."
Unreal made its mobile debut to stunning effect late last year with Chair Entertainment’s iOS title Infinity Blade. Epic then made the Unreal mobile SDK available to independent developers, and last week relaxed its royalties policy: it now starts taking its 25 per cent cut once sales revenue passes $50,000, up from $5,000.
Epic Games is to unveil the latest enhancements to Unreal Engine 3 at the Game Developers Conference, which kicks off in San Francisco later today.
