As the App Store approaches the ten billion download mark, Apple has released charts showing the most downloaded apps since the service began in 2008.
All but one of the top ten all-time iPhone paid apps – AppBox Alarm Pro, at number nine – are games. After a week of bad press, developer Lima Sky will be cheered to see its game Doodle Jump sat atop the chart.
Rovio’s all-conquering Angry Birds – which came out eight months after Doodle Jump in December 2009 - is in fourth. Bolt Creative appear on the list three times, with Tap Tap Revenges 2.6, 3 and Classic making the chart.
The free apps chart tells a very different story, with only one game making the cut. Sneaking in at number nine is Backflip’s ad-funded Paper Toss, which the developer claims has been installed over 22 million times and is the main source of the company’s reported monthly revenue of $500,000.
Just four games make it into the iPad paid chart – Stickwars, Backbreaker Football, Blocks Classic and Cro-Mag Rally.
