Microsoft has rolled out the latest version of Games for Windows – Live.
The 3.0 update features a number of new features. Most notably, an in-game marketplace now allows players to purchase and install content without leaving their game.
Live accounts can also be managed in-game, enabling players to purchase points, edit and add payment details, redeem codes and change Gamertags without exiting their session.
Additionally, the update introduces some anti-piracy measures. Microsoft says that server side authentication will link game licenses to Gamertags, allowing installation of a game onto any PC players use, while zero day piracy protection is said to keep games from launching before their intended street date.
The update is available to download now.
I agree with both SunKing and Alex Walker on this.
I absolutely hate it when patching takes forever and you can't see how long it'll take, I keep thinking after 10 minutes that my game has frozen over.
It's also annoying when retail shops do sell games on the street before intended date. Ah, that fateful Demigod incident.....May we never see such problems ever again...
Now all they need to do is not make logging in slow as hell and improve the update system. (Not giving any indication as to how long it will take for a patch to finish updating the software is a teensy problem, if you ask me.)
"zero day piracy protection is said to keep games from launching before their intended street date"
Why? Plenty of online shops send games early so that it won't arrive after the day, and I don't see a problem with this. If your worried about stores breaking strret dates, thats simple, don't give them and copies from your next batch of that game, and don't give them your next game until it is already out.
There will be no point going early if it will cost you dear, and consumers should not be punished for the shops releasing games early.
Anyone know if the prices are good? Because that's all I care about.
