GameStop Bringing PowerUp Cards To Europe

US-retail giant's rewards program set to make the leap overseas.

Videogame retailer GameStop will launch its PowerUp rewards card in Europe. The card was introduced nationwide to the US in October and encourages users to “score points” for trade-ins and purchases which can then be redeemed online or in-store.

The program is similar to UK retailer Gamestation’s recent Elite scheme which rewards customers with “ranks” for purchases/trades primarily relating to trade-ins.

Mike Mauler, international  executive VP told MCV: “One thing we were very surprised by was the perception that the majority of our loyalty card members would be hardcore gamers – but the majority aren’t hardcore, it’s mums, grandmas and dads joining up.”

The Pro PowerUp card costs members $15 up-front and offers discounts and promotions.

GameStop recently recorded losses across its 55 Ireland-based stores.
