The technology, which can be used with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will take motion sensing gaming experiences beyond that offered by the Wii, In2Games director Harry Holmwood told us last year, expressing his desire to see the likes of EA and Sega adopt Gametrak Freedom for their sports titles.
“Freedom is a motion capture system that has 3D ultrasonic positioning, so basically what that means is it knows precisely to within about 2mm where it is in your living room and what you’re doing. It’s the kind of technology that’s used to make Hollywood movies,” Holmwood said. “Freedom can do all the casual Wii-type stuff but it can also go a lot further. Our goal is not just to have throwaway party sports games but in-depth sports simulation games.”
PDP president and CEO Chris Richards said of the acquisition, “We are extremely excited to bring this unparalleled technology to first party console manufacturers, as well as third party publishers and developers to further heighten the level of game interaction with the player.”
