GDC 2013: Mozilla and Epic working on bringing Unreal Engine 3 to Firefox

Firefox creator Mozilla is working with Epic Games to make Unreal Engine 3 available in-browser.

Speaking at GDC, the technology company revealed that it wanted to achieve browser-based 3D visuals on a par with native apps, eventually supporting big-budget releases.

“To make these advancements, Mozilla developed a highly-optimized version of JavaScript that supercharges a developer’s gaming code in the browser to enable visually compelling, fast, 3D gaming experiences on the Web,” the company explained.

“With this technology we are also opening up the path for 3D Web-based games on mobile as JavaScript performance continues to close the gap with native.”
