But Meggan Scavio, GDC director, appeared happy with the numbers, particularly considering the current state of the economy.
"We are thrilled with our final numbers. It just proves that even in a struggling economy, people see GDC as a must-attend event," she said in an e-mail to Edge.
"...The fact that so many folks found their way to San Francisco last week despite current economic conditions validates all that we do and is tribute to our industry. I can’t wait to see everyone again next year."
This year's event featured 500 lectures, panels, summits and other sessions pertaining to the games industry.
Organizer Think Services has already slated GDC 2010 for March 9-13 in San Francisco.
