Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 2 has sold over five million copies worldwide, taking overall franchise sales past the eleven million unit mark, Microsoft has announced.

Released on November 7, 2008, Gears of War 2 sold two million copies during its opening weekend, before hitting the three million mark in early December.

Additionally, Microsoft has confirmed plans to launch the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection, a boxed retail release featuring all previous Gears of War 2 downloadable content plus upcoming release Dark Corners, an add-on pack consisting of seven new multiplayer maps and a deleted campaign chapter called Road to Ruin.

“In this exclusive episode, Marcus and Dom return to the Locust Hollow in a scene that can be played two ways, guns blazing or in all-new stealth mode,” says Microsoft.

The package, which will also feature an introduction from Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski, a custom Xbox Live theme, a Gears of War 2 poster and a strategy guide, will hit stores worldwide on July 28 for $19.99.

The Dark Corners game add-on will also be made available to download via Xbox Live for 1,600 Microsoft Points.

So is multiplayer still broken? No trolling, just don't follow Gears too closely.

So they're bragging about selling 5 million units of one of their most popular series in 7 months.

Sorry but being one of the top sellers for the 360 means these stats aren't that impressive.

It's sold more than any PlayStation 3 game, and would be 8th on the Wii list. Bearing in mind that the top selling game is packaged with the console and the second best selling game is sold as a second remote as well.

What exactly are you expecting?

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal actually, but considering what you get for 19.99 the stand-alone Dark Corners DLC seems ridiculously overpriced.

Microsoft's pathetic chest-thumping NEVER gets boring, does it?

Oh, and what's this? They're going to milk their fans by repackaging the same content again? THAT'S a new one.

They are nothing if not predictable.

Sounds like a good package to me. I don't know how a brand new single player chapter could qualify as "the same content".

For me, it's the console wars that never get boring, although they ultimately get very stupid. :)) Some people just don't seem to get over the fact that there are great titles on all systems and Gears of War is clearly one of these.

Actually the disc version comes with all the previous DLC maps as a bonus; the US retail price of the disc copy is $19.99 and the DLC version of just the Campaign chapter and 7 new maps is the equivalent of $20. Not so much "repackaging" when the old content is thrown in at no extra cost.

And who really wants the option to buy optional added content for games that you enjoyed and already got your money's worth and more out of them. The nerve of them. There are many companies who are using shady tactics to short change consumers with DLC (the Japanese publisher trend of paying for content to be unlocked from the disc is truly despicable), but I thing MS and the 3rd parties with exclusive 360 content are examples of it being done right. I guess if I go to the Edge article about the Killzone 2 DLC from a while back, I'll see some comments from you cursing Sony for ripping off consumers just like MS is doing?

And about bragging about numbers, I'd rate a press release about confirmed consumer sales over one about supposed pre-order numbers (which were in Killzone 2's case obviously how much initial stock retail ordered, not consumer pre-orders which was what it implied). I'm not sure if you quite understand that 5 million copies of a game is a significant amount sold, as a gaming hardware company, it's advantageous for them to share with 3rd parties that games put out on their platform are capable sales of this level.

The underlining point, your ignorant comments can very easily apply to Sony and the PS3, and just like here, they wouldn't be very constructive or true.

Uh, I'm a huge GoW2 fan and I wreck havok in multiplayer (since the update TU3). They've got me, I only have one map pack (too cheap to buy the others) but I will be buying this... Sorry u feel that way.
