The German government will likely review a petition signed by over 60,000 citizens against a proposed ban on the domestic production of violent videogames.

In early June, Germany's 16 interior ministers grouped together in a bid to outlaw the production and distribution of games "where the main part is to realistically play the killing of people or other cruel or un-human acts of violence against humans or manlike characters."

They aimed to pass the proposal into law by September, meaning consumers wouldn’t be able to purchase certain titles, and that studios like Crtyek would be forced to outsource the development of violent games or relocate their operations to another country.

But according to Gamezine (via GamePolitics), the German parliament is required to officially review petitions signed by over 50,000 citizens. The petition against a ban on violent games production has been signed by over 64,000 people, reportedly making it the most popular contemporary e-petition brought to the German government.
