The petition, posted in July 2009 on the official forum of the Bundestag (the German Parliament), has received over 73,000 signatures. German law requires that any petition passing the 50,000 mark must be reviewed and discussed by government.
As a result, the author of the petition was invited to speak before the Committee on Petitions, where they recommended better education on media in place of the ban, reports GamePolitics.com. Heeding that advice, Parliament State Secretary Dr Herman Kues has announced that no changes to the current criminal code will be enacted. Instead, the government will turn its attention to public awareness of the PEGI ratings system.
