Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed to Edge that it has scooped the rights to publish Terminal Reality’s upcoming Ghostbusters: The Video Game on PlayStation platforms in Europe and PAL regions alongside the film's 25th anniversary Blu-ray release next month.
GamesIndustry.biz reported this morning that the game is set for a June 19 release alongside the Sony Pictures film, but only on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. Several months later the game will also be hitting PlayStation Portable, according to the report.
It’s currently unclear what will happen to the Xbox 360 and PC editions of the title, which Terminal Reality was also developing, or the Wii and DS versions, which were in development at Red Fly Studios. Edge has contacted Atari to find out if it still holds the licence to publish the game on non-Sony platforms.
Sony also told Edge that further details regarding its new Ghostbusters publishing deal will be revealed later today. We’ll update the story as the news comes in.
Update: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has just confirmed via press release that Terminal Reality and Red Fly Studios’ Ghostbusters: The Video Game will arrive on PS3 and PS2 this June, with a PSP version of the game scheduled for launch in autumn 2009.
“We’re committed to bringing the PlayStation family the biggest and best gaming experiences first,” said Mark Hardy, European product marketing director at SCEE, “and it doesn’t get any bigger and better than this blockbuster title. This summer, PlayStation owners will be the first to grab their proton packs and fight the spirit world.”
While there was no mention of the game’s release on other consoles, it appears likely that the title will be a timed PlayStation platform exclusive, and that it'll appear on other systems towards the end of the year.
