Over 300 games were developed last weekend during the Global Game Jam.
The 48-hour simultaneous-game-design event, which took place across multiple cities in 23 countries, was said to have have gathered over 1,750 participating developers.
Each were tasked with forming a team the had never met before and build a working game with no prior knowledge of the design requirements. Though such a burden looked likely to greatly limit such endeavours, organisers claim that the international event “has been a tremendous success on so many levels.”
The organising group declared on their website that they are “very happy with the results. For those that participated, we applaud you, we are jealous of you and we think you are brilliant. You have done well and have attempted to make 300-plus games in one weekend. Some of them are genius, some of them of funny, some poignant, silly and some…not so successful.”
The group now offers assessment over to you, as all the finished games from the event are available to play and rate on the site’s game portal.
“Nothing but passion and hard work has prepared us for the stamina and metal it takes to mentally and physically create a game in 48 hours,” said the organisers, who are presumably exhausted. “You did better than you imagined, you learned new things, made new friends and you were a member of the 1st Annual Global Game Jam, congratulations. Now go get some sleep, play some games and tell everyone what you did.”
The team confirmed that another Global Game Jam will take place next year.
