[Update: SCEE looking into options to bring the compilation to Europe]
Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced God Of War Collection for PS3.
Scheduled for release this holiday season, the compilation will feature reworked versions of God Of War and God Of War II on a single Blu-ray disc at full 1280 x 720 resolution.
The company said that both of the titles, which were originally developed by SCE Studios Santa Monica for PS2, have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second.
Retailing for $39.99, about $20 cheaper than an average PS3 release, God Of War Collection will bring PlayStation Network trophy support to the franchise for the first time.
Scott Rohde, vice president of Sony Worldwide Studios America, said that the company had partnered with Texas-based Blast Factor developer Bluepoint Games on God Of War Collection.
SCE Studios Santa Monica is currently developing God Of War III, which is due for release on PS3 in March 2010.
A spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has told us that the company has yet to finalise a European release for God Of War Collection.
“We are currently looking into options to bring God of War I and II to SCEE consumers on PS3," the rep said. "However it will not be possible to release the games this calendar year. We will provide further information in due course.”
Thanks, VG247
Nice, it's funny how SCEE can't bring it in straight away. I guess licensing issues in Europe cause problems. However I don't care so I won't look into it, I must say the development of High Definition as a global standard rather than this NTSC/PAL crap we used to have to deal with leaves consumers in what were PAL zones (Like Europe, New Zealand!!!, and Australia) a lot better off.
However if you're still on a standard definition TV the old principles will continue to apply. Upgrade homies.
lol SCEE looking into options to bring the compilation to EU........SCEE suck balls as always.
What's the betting that if it does ever see the light of day within the EU they will spilt the games up and charge £19.99 each?
You could just import it, the PS3 isn't region locked for gaming.
Shouldn't have to though for titles that were as large as they were, Maybe via psn download but God of War 1 and 2 were hardly niche titles.
SCEE make me laugh they have been pricks since PS days and have got no better 14 years on.
Even though for me STILL not being able to afford a PS3 (gave the one I had to a nephew before being laidoff). Everyone should be rejoicing. This a great deal to have as both those games were and still are awesome...
Sony said they were focusing on original IP's. They meant original IP's they already had? Wow! I really misinterpreted that!
If you axe-backward compatibility, you can resell your old games. Sony is adopting a lot of iPhone strategies; so this makes a lot of sense. Good luck, I'm looking forward to 1080p...err, wait, don't want a repeat of Ghostbusters...720p version of Ape Escape.
Do you just sit there and wait for every possible opportunity to get anti sony? You started out rather moderate but now you're just coming across as a bit bonkers.
Now we know why Sony axed Backwards Compatibility. ;)
Funny, if MS re-mastered Halo 1 & 2 for 360 the SDF would be howling about them milking the franchise and x-bots being suckers for rebuying the same games with just prettier graphics, but it's ok for God of War...
Not a bad deal for those who haven't played these fine games, but doesn't make sense for those (like me) who still have both that will play on my original 60 gig PS3.

Yeah, but you aren't playing them at 720p, 60 fps with 2x AA.
Man, there is no pleasing some assholes.
Using terms like SDF just reveals how much you are a total fanboy and out of place on this site.
Compared to Gamespot he actually tones down the fanboyism on this site... but not nearly enough.
Would be better if they re-mastered both games in the GOW 3 engine, I could think of alot of other games I would to see get that sort of treatment also.
First and formost FF7, followed by GTA VC & Halo 1&2. Anyone care to add to the list?
Also I think Cannon Fodder would be perfect for a Wii re-make (control wise that is).
I don't have a funny video clip but I think it's great news all the same. I recently rented both games on Lovefilm a few months back, having missed them originally due to a dead PS2. And I must say I struggled to get on with them. I think it was the horrible blurry graphics that put me off. Ps2 games on a HD telly look as bad as N64 games on normal tellies, even with the smoothing option on PS3. This should rectify that and I shall thoroughly enjoy them this time around.
No amount of blurry textures and flickering polygons stopped me from loving Shadow of the Collosus though! Maybe Team Ico will be nice enough to update that and Ico before The Last Guardian comes out too!
Fuck yeah. Great news.
