God of War: Chains of Olympus has gone gold, just in time to remind PSP owners that the system’s not all about multimedia capabilities like Skype and satellite navigation.
Eric Koch, senior producer at developer SCEA Santa Monica, announced that the hotly anticipated title is headed to factories and due in US stores on March 4 in a post on the PlayStation Blog.
God of War, which debuted in 2005, is one of Sony’s leading first party franchises. Chains of Olympus for PSP will mark the first time the series has appeared on the platform holder’s handheld, and will act as a prequel to two multi-million selling PS2 God of War titles.
In a separate post one of God of War’s marketing staff offered some details about the game’s advertising campaign, which includes an already released tease print ad, a launch print ad coming in March and an upcoming TV spot from Animal Logic, “the CG house that provided the visual effects & art direction for the stylized look” of the movie 300.
God of War III is in development for PlayStation 3, although Sony has yet to confirm a release date.
Chains of Olympus developer Ready at Dawn recently announced that its debut title, Daxter for PSP, had sold more than two million units.
Correction: An earlier version of the story said Koch was from Ready at Dawn.
