Rock Band Green Day is to be the next standalone title in the franchise, following the release of The Beatles: Rock Band earlier this year.

"We've worked with the Rock Band team in the past year to enable our fans to play tracks from 21st Century Breakdown, and we're excited to now be working on a game, spanning our entire career," said Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. "We want people to fire this up, choose their favorite Green Day tracks, and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what it's like to perform on stage as Green Day."

The game will feature the band’s “most-defining albums and key moments throughout their career” and is due for release in 2010 on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii platforms. All tracks will be playable in previous version of the Rock Band series.

"Green Day's music and explosive live performances transcend age barriers," says Tom Whalley, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. Records. "By partnering with the band and Harmonix, Warner Bros. Reprise is thrilled to help create a Rock Band experience devoted exclusively to their impressive catalog. This game will appeal to fans of all ages, including those who love their recent best-selling albums and those who've loved Green Day throughout their long, incredible career."

Green Day have to be one of the worst bands in the world. A one trick pony of a band whose singer (if that's what you call it) drones on in the same monotonous tone in every song they've recorded. And going from 'punk' to emo shows no evolution. They've always made music for kids and since emo is the 'in' thing for most kids, they can now rake in the cash.

Purely lame, this....

This is really sad. There are very few places left to go after The Beatles, and Green Day is definitely not one of them. Led Zeppelin would've been far more preferred; if not that, then work on RB3 and give Green Day a track pack. Don't give them a full fledged game. This will be the first full Harmonix product I don't buy since before they made Guitar Hero.

I still haven't got around to getting any of these rock-band/gh games. Have either of them put out a Led-Zep version yet?

Nope, and i wouldn't hold your breath, can't see the Zep signing the contract.

There are some tracks on some of the games, and im sure there is DLC,

I would love to see a Led Zeppelin version of Rock Band. That would be all sorts of fun. Pound for pound, I think they are probably the most talented band ever. No matter what instrument you played it would be loads of fun, and probably pretty tricky.

I hope RB3 is built on a modular framework so that these things can be downloaded as DLC rather than standalone, siloed games (ala RB:Beatles). I don't see why new models, artwork, songs, etc. can't all be downloaded.

C'mon, all this resentment GD takes because they evolved its nonsense. They have a very big and good quality catalog. Thank god they have evolved and not die out like most of punk bands in general that have cero-inovation

Also GD started as a Pop-Punk band, how hardcore can that be?. At the same time Alternative music was booming so it was influential in some songs, and they continued evolving with that in mind.

Now if you don't like it, it's ok, but lot of people do. I love the beatles but i hardly put the game on because most of my friends just like some of it, so they prefer not to switch from Rockband 2 disc (and DLC). The same thing will happen with GD i guess, but is a matter of tastes.

I think the problem alot of people have with Greenday is that their music followed a steady path, it matured as they matured, as did their 'look', it just all kind of fitted.

Then they released 'American Idiot', had a drastic image change and the album itself was very different to what they made before, and it was more commercially successful, this gives the impression they sold out. Really they are the same old Greenday in person, as anyone who has seen them live would testify.

As far as them being in Rock Band, they seem a perfect choice to me. As you say they have a large back catalouge, the early stuff will appeal to some while the later stuff will appeal to others. Their music is accesable o the masses without being too poppy.

As individuals they are unique and highly entertaining as an act (once again anyone who has seen them live will agree), therefore perfect for a game.

Personally, i don't like Greenday's new stuff and am sick to death of listening to their older stuff, so i wouldn't even consider getting this, but it will sell alot of copies.

You could see that coming since GD changed their image to fit into MTV's award candidateness.

Fuck me! One extreme to the other, eh? From the worlds biggest band to the worlds shittest band. Nice one Harmonix! Surely they could have thought of better bands. I would have expected this from the Guitar Hero franchise, but Rock Band? A DLC pack of Dookie would have been ok but a whole game is crazy. Still, this will sell better than The Beatles Rock Band as most people nowadays prefer shit music to classic bands with talent. Ho hum, never mind. I don't have to buy it I suppose. Doesn't stop me from dying a little inside.
