GTAIV Storms Japanese Charts
The PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV has debuted at the top of the Japanese software sales charts for the week ending Nov 2.
The PS3 version of Rockstar North’s critically-acclaimed title outsold three other new entries which all make up the top four games in the chart. LittleBigPlanet finished in third, while the 360 version of GTA debuted in fourth.
The PS3, which has in recent times been performing the weakest in terms of hardware sales in Japan, is expected to see a boost in sales due to the new software. Strong sales of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III, which is part of a PS3 bundle deal, suggests that this week’s Japanese Hardware charts will see Sony’s flagship console climb back into more familiar territory. Rumours are circulating that the PS3 will jump straight to the top of the hardware charts, though with the DSi having just been released it would come as a shock.
Strong sales in Japan may be the last hurrah for GTAIV, a game which has taken numerous sales records. The game sold over 3.6m copies in the first day of its worldwide launch, reaching 6 million sales by the end of its launch week. In the UK it sold over 600,000 copies on its first day of release.

Perhaps. Japan has been an interesting market as of late with the 360 doing so well I don't think anything would surprise me at this point.
I don't know about the top, but I'm sure higher than worst. Also though, GTAIV didn't make much if any difference to hardware sales in the US and it'll be interesting to see if the same occurs in Japan.
Not only did GTAIV launch, but LBP, and 80gig PS3. LBP is sold in a hardware bundle and I hear GT5:P is being bundled as well. With all that, no way the PS3 won't be #1 this week.
While normally i'd be in full agreement, with 2 top 3 titles being released this week. However, Nintendo is reporting that all 200 000 of their DSi shipped in the first 2 days, and they were rushing to add another 100 000. If that's true (when a company is reporting their own shipping/sales, I take it with a grain of salt), it would be tough for the PS3 to move over 200 000 units to take top spot. Also, if the PSP-3000 is still selling like it was last week, that's a LOT of hardware competition from the handheld market. Should be interesting.
