Guild Wars Franchise Tops Five Million Sales

Publisher NCsoft and developer ArenaNet have announced that total Guild Wars game sales have surpassed five million units.

The online RPG franchise consists of the original Guild Wars, Guild Wars Factions, Guild Wars Nightfall and expansion Guild Wars: Eye of the North, which operate using a subscription-free business model.

 

With the original Guild Wars having been released in 2005, total franchise sales have topped five million units in Europe, North America and Asia in under three years.

 

“Guild Wars is a proven success and has set a new standard for online RPG games with its unique business model and superior playability,” said NCsoft CEO Taek Jin Kim.

 

“ArenaNet is dedicated to creating games that expand the market and provide great new content to our loyal player base. This success has built a great foundation from which the next generation of Guild Wars games will grow.”

 

ArenaNet is currently developing Guild Wars 2.
