Microsoft has confirmed rumours of a new Halo title by announcing Halo Reach at its E3 press conference.

A brief trailer for the game, which is due for release in “fall 2010,” was shown off. For those that can’t wait that long, Halo 3: ODST purchasers will receive access to the Halo Reach multiplayer beta.

You could slap 'Halo' on a dog turd and the foaming at the mouth masses would lap it right up. I cannot for the life of me see what is so great about this mediocre franchise and 'been there done that' gaming.

@nickgamertag01,so sorry my grammar is not up to your impeccable standard, may have to brush up with a course or something.

As for the pc gamers i offended, you can't argue with the strengths of certain aspects of pc gaming.I used to enjoy the old keyboard/mouse thing, myself.Consoles have advanced enough to enjoy top gaming without having to worry about processors, graphics cards, etc.System shock 2,half life, deus ex,thief and the rest had me enthralled back in the day,but like i said, consoles can do these sorts of games now without having the hassle that comes with pc gaming.

I don't own an Xbox, but listening to how people talk on these forums; here's my opinion on what Micro Soft..holla should do.

They should go rogue. Bernie Stolar rogue. They should release Halo Kart, Halo Xtreme Sports, Hell..Halo Party. Throw it up on Live for cheap as a "f*ck-all" to Nintendo's pimping of its own franchises. Smart companies roll with their stereotypes, good & bad, and it goes a long way to defuse negative opinion.

Brendan_Keogh's picture

lol... I would so buy Halo Kart...

holla! LMAO

@Barla Von,ok we get the point, you don't like consoles.Myself,i would much rather chill on the settee/bed (playing Bioshock,Halo3,Cod 4,Gta 4,et al),with the might that is the 360 contoller, than be cramped up playing on a pc monitor, playing The sims and world of warcraft, not to mention issues with crashing, graphics card updates, and all the rest of the shit that goes with pc gaming!!!!

To each is own, pal.Just don't slag everything console based off,the pc is hardly the be all and end all of gaming.Even the major pc developers,Valve,Crytek,Bioware, etc, have cottoned on to the thriving of console gaming, with huge success,i might add.

toadwarrior's picture

You can play PC games where ever you want. PC gaming is more expensive, which is why most people are crammed onto a tiny desk rather than using wireless controllers, etc to access their PC hooked up to a HDTV but it can be just as easily as it can on a console.

Those companies release superior versions on the PC but of course they're not dumb. They will cash in on the console success too.

Indrema's picture

Where...Ever? Really?

I'm a PC-exclusive gamer, myself. Please!! We have a reputation. If you're going to say how elite we are, don't make us look like we can't spell our way out of an NES cartridge.

Rider_on_the_Storm's picture

Dude, you sound like Nick's alt account. You're not fooling anyone Alex (i mean Nick).

NickgamertagO1's picture

Lol, Rider I've tried with you I really have. I've decided to ignore pretty much anything you say but this is too funny. Nothing against alex, but his post is littered with grammatical errors. I'm an English snob and can see the smallest mistakes (and the obvious ones, too) and do make a few of my own. But if I were ever to put up a post where I have no spaces in-between punctuation marks I'd flame myself (not that you, Wall_E, and Top don't do it enough already). Anyway, have a good one Jimmy.

(Again, nothing against you alex and I wouldn't have said anything about your post's typographical errors if I wasn't using it to point out the obvious that I'm not you, and you're not me.)

ArronC07's picture

You do realise that pulling people up on spelling and punctuation is the sign of someone who has little faith in his arguments.

Barla Von's picture

Wow, you just don't GET IT! Do you?!

Consoles are going the way of the PC....

grognard66's picture

Actually, you're the one that doesn't get it Barla. PC's will viewed as a curiosity in homes in less than a generation (but will still be used in the workplace). Networked digital appliances will be the hubs people use for all their entertainment needs; such as playing games, watching movies/tv shows/music videos, listening to music, networking with family/friends, and accessing the internet (web surfing, paying your bills, etc.). We're already pretty much there - there are just a few more technological and interface hurdles to make the process easier for everyone to use and the new motion interface MS debuted today is just one more step in that direction.

toadwarrior's picture

Actually you're right, if the likes of MS get their way, because a lot of companies realised the PC gives users to much freedom. This allows users to do what they want which may include by-passing DRM or downloading things that MS feels you shouldn't have, like Linux, and it forces you to buy new hardware when they decide as games will lose the whole minimum and maximum system requirements.

Plus if they gained such control with their console then they control the programming languages you can use, the software you install, pretty much everything. Of course that's what they want but intelligent person wishes for such a thing.

MS already has an OS monopoly. I can't believe anyone thinks it's a good idea if they have a monopoly on the software and the hardware. It's not just MS, the same goes for any company. Though MS poses a bigger threat because, if they had their way, they'd own the hardware and software you use, the mobile phone you use, the personal music player you own and the server you connect to.

To have one company have so much control over information is down right wrong. You wouldn't want the government to control everything so why would one company controlling everything be any better?

NickgamertagO1's picture

Holy shit. This is fuckin awesome news. Anyone who has read the books know that this is going to rock. It'll be great to finally see Master Chief and his spartan team from the books. They've been absent from the games for too long. Only bad news, we know how it ends...

Barla Milking? Are you kidding me? There's only been 3 Halo proper titles in over 7 years. To put that into perspective, Modern Warfare: 2 is the 5th Call of Duty game on the 360 alone. The 360 has had 1 Halo FPS in 3 1/2 years and ODST will be the 2nd Halo FPS on the 360 in 4 years. The Xbox 1 had only 2 Halo games in its lifetime. Halo Wars I can understand why people would think they're milking it, but ODST being a spinoff and Reach being a prequel to Halo: Combat evolved I don't think it's fair to say they're milking it. When we see Halo on iPod (cough Metal Gear cough) then I would think they're milking it. For me and about 8 million other 360 owners, it's an awesome announcement.

grognard66's picture

I agree, Nick. The book was very good and I found myself wishing many of the events would be represented in a game - and now they are. Should be a slightly darker tone for the series too - considering it covers a failed campaign (hence the title "Fall of Reach").

NickgamertagO1's picture

It would be nice if the game somehow covered the creation process of the Spartans. That was the most intriguing part of the series for me. It's sorta like a super hero movie where they cover how the hero got his/her power and how they learned to use/master it. Most people probably don't realize that Master Chief was abducted and cloned as a child (with his clone dying not too much later after that) and thrust into intense combat training and body altering medical enhancements. Anyway, I'm verging on nerdom and the crows have been circling today.

Barla Von's picture

This is going to be the 5th Halo (1/2/3/Wars/ODST) within 7 years!

Stop kidding yourself, if that's not milking, then the pope is a protestant!

NickgamertagO1's picture

Well...by the time ODST comes out that'll be year 8!!!

Look, all joking aside, before just a couple months ago Halo fans were used to waiting an excruciatingly long time in-between Halo titles. Halo wars was not a Halo title in the traditional sense and its sales showed that. So, take that game away that obviously most Halo fans had no interest in we've only had 3 Halo titles in 7 1/2 years and ODST will just be a hold over until the next proper Halo title. So, really we've anything but spoiled with a plethora of Halo games. ODST will mark the 4th game in 8 years which will continued it's average of 1 game every two years. That's not Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, GTA, Mario, or Zelda (not counting spin-offs, iPod games, handheld, etc.) style long waits, but it's much longer than some of the popular franchises we see annual updates to.

Maybe I'm arguing more from a Halo fan's perspective, but to me ODST will mark just the 4th title in 8 years. That's not so bad, right?

Barla Von's picture

Sigh....there's no talking to a fanboy.

toadwarrior's picture

And it certainly won't be the last one.

There have been at least 4 Halo titles out now(With Halo ODST on the way and maybe Halo Chronicles Trilogy in the future) and assuming this one actually comes out in 2010, that's at least 1 title every 2 years which for big titles is pretty much one right after another.

That is pretty much as close to milking as you can get.

Then once you start including the Halo books, Halo styled 360 and other merchandise. Microsoft definitely wants to make Halo its Mario franchise.

NickgamertagO1's picture

Ok, Toad (I'm starting to see a trend here lol) I'll give you that. But who wouldn't try to take advantage of such a lucrative IP? Halo is as big of an exclusive franchise as you're ever going to see. With the exception of Mario and Zelda, no other title gets near each Halo game's retail success. And no game (with exception of the non-exclusive FF and GTA) get the kind of media attention and blockbuster sales as Halo. 175 million dollars in less than 24 hours for Halo 3; only the Harry Potter books and multi-system GTAIV had those kinds of numbers.

Does being that popular justify multiple increments? Just ask Activision. ^^

toadwarrior's picture

But coming from a community that hates Nintendo's milking of titles and their untraditional controller, 360 fans are looking a bit hypocritical now.

Of course they looked hypocritical when MS launched their very Mii-like avatars too. ;)

Barla Von's picture

Talk about milking a franchise!

grognard66's picture

Give me a break, Barla - 6 games in 9 years is milking a franchise? There are plenty of your beloved Playstation franchises that produce more games at a faster clip.

Barla Von's picture

Mate, i don't own any Playstations or Xboxes. I think you better back-up there a little!

NickgamertagO1's picture

Really? Why would you bother with this site's forums then? It's mostly console gaming-talk. That'd be like me not owning an iPod but joining an iPod forum then proceeding to talk shit about something I'll never play or own. Doesn't make much sense. I guess I'd just be hesitant to act knowledgeable about an area I'm not familiar with.

Top_Dollar's picture

Nick, what age are you? 15! Your acting like it!

NickgamertagO1's picture

Top, you're no position say someone is acting like a 15 y/o. Most of the time you just throw up stupid pictures and don't even involve yourself in discussion. You think it's clever or original to be towel boy on the sidelines until someone puts up an opinionated post and your itchy trigger finger gets its chance to click on whatever stupid picture you've managed to dig up.

It's ironic you of all people would tell someone they're acting like a child. At least you actually spoke, that's a step in the right direction.

Top_Dollar's picture

Edge is a multiplatform magazine and you're on here banging on about consoles only. Idiot!

AVA's picture

.....but this thread is about a new Halo game , ..... on a console , what did you expect???? (O_O)

NickgamertagO1's picture

Well Top I said MOSTLY console didn't I? Last post you showed you learned how to talk, now you just need to learn how to be read.

Rider_on_the_Storm's picture

Nick, i'll be the first to tell you, STOP! You're making a cunt of yourself!

Barla Von's picture

Games are games, regardless the platform. The current gen systems are hardly the shit.

I've got a tip-top PC here...plus i play my friends consoles. I think that's enough!

NickgamertagO1's picture

True, I'll give you that. While there isn't a true definition of what whoring out your franchise is, but if we start to see annual Halo releases the game will lose some of its luster and the excitement around each Halo launch will deminish. I don't want to wait 3 years for a proper Halo sequel, but I don't really want one annually either.

Well, you're one of the lucky ones then Barla, I couldn't afford a tip-top gaming PC so I gotta settle for the next best thing. At least the gap between PCs and home consoles isn't as bad as it used to be. You can have respectable ports from PC to consoles when before you really couldn't (Xbox 1's version of Half Life 2 for example).
