Halo: Reach Storms UK Chart

Bungieís last Halo game gives Microsoft its biggest ever launch week and the fifth biggest ever in the UK.

Halo: Reach has debuted atop the UK all formats chart for the week ended September 18, recording the biggest ever launch week for publisher Microsoft and the fifth biggest in UK history, behind only Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360 and PS3), Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) and GTA IV (Xbox 360).

The title improved on Halo 3’s launch week by 20,000 sales and Halo: ODST’s by almost 200,000 sales, according to sales monitor GfK Chart-Track.

Microsoft said that first day Halo: Reach sales generated $200 million worldwide, making last Tuesday’s release the biggest launch of any game or movie this year. Publisher body UKIE also said the game sold 330,000 copies in the UK during its first 24 hours of availability.

PlayStation Move game Sports Champions, which launched on Friday alongside the PS3 hardware, was a new entry in second place, while Mafia II slipped to third after three weeks at the top. The only other new PS3 Move titles to break into the top 40 were Start The Party! at 29 and Racket Sports at 32. NHL 11 was a new entry at 26.
