Ensemble Studios' final work, Halo Wars, has taken a small release date setback and will now launch in the US on March 3 next year. Microsoft has also confirmed that the RTS will land in Japan and Asian territories on Feb 26, and that Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions should expect to see the game ship for a Feb 26 release.

“Pre-orders for Halo Wars are taking place at participating retailers nationwide now,” reads the announcement on the game’s official website. “Fans who pre-order will receive an exclusive in-game Warthog with flame decals.”

As with all things Halo, the game will launch with a Limited Collector’s edition, priced at $79.99 in the US, which will contain a way to obtain an in-game Honor Guard Wraith, a graphic novel, six Leader cards and a Spirit of Fire patch. The pack will also give its owners “early access to the in-game Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack for exciting new multiplayer action.”

Halo Wars has been rated Teen by the ESRB, marking it as the first game in the franchise to do so.

Agreed.

The Limited Edition stuff for Halo is always awesome, so that's why I have also already placed a pre-order.

Xbox 360 has by far the largest amount of Real-Time Strategy games available this generation, so a slight delay won't matter. I want Microsoft to take as much time as they need to make sure that all of the awesome potential of Halo's cool storyline and great characters are taken advantage of and used properly in this RTS game.

Normally I don't buy LE, but I love Halo, and I would like those maps a little early.

Early next year is gonna be hell for my wallet with Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5, this, and more.
