The demo version of Ensemble’s final game,‭ ‬Halo Wars,‭ ‬has been downloaded over two million times.‭

That figure was reached in the space of one week since the demo was released,‭ ‬marking it as one of the most popular Xbox‭ ‬360‭ ‬demos yet.‭

Microsoft had also stated‭ – ‬in response to Thursday’s NPD results‭ – ‬that more people joined the Xbox Live service‭ ‬this‭ ‬January than‭ ‬in any other month,‭ ‬perhaps due to the system’s huge boost in sales over the Christmas period.‭ And though the firm was reluctant to provide exact retail figures,‭ ‬it added that‭ ‬Fallout‭ ‬3‭’‬s new DLC‭ – ‬called‭ ‬Operation Anchorage‭ – ‬was one of the most popular downloads in January.

Halo Wars is scheduled for release on February‭ ‬27‭ ‬for‭ ‬Europe.‭ ‬North Americans will have to wait an additional week,‭ ‬with the release set for‭ ‬March‭ ‬3.

Has anybody actually been able to demonstrate any link between demo downloads and actual sales figures?

hello calladorn8t
yes of course i played the demo! i promise you i did play both the missions on the demo ,i'll admit i didnt realise you could cycle through the units once you select a group... but more importantly (for me at least) ive just read in GAMES.tm magazine that you can adjust the radius of the highlighter circle to a small size so you can brush it over ivdividual the units you want to select..thats great to know as initially it was the biggest issue i had with the demo.

i agree with you the way the units dont move out the way isnt game breaking, like i said its just me thats used to the them moving out the way in c&c. i prob wont end up finding it much of a problem once i get into the game as you can only build a max of 30 units (at least in the demo version) so theres not going to be too much congestion of units blocking each other.

Im not sure many fans of FPS genre will go for this title but RTS fans will especially if they're fans of Ensemble Studios. And i've heard that it its not much different from AoE3 and that Halo Wars is just AoE3 set in future times. i mean looking at the image above the terrain looks similar too that af Age of Empires 3.

Being a big fan of c&c games there was a few things i didnt like when i played this demo like when you try to move a unit or tank past another unit it gets blocked and you have to move the other units out the to clear the path (in c&c games the other units automatically moved out the way)
Also how you cant pick individual units and move them one at a time(correct me if im wrong on that one).as far as i could see it only lets you move the whole army at once or all the units on screen an once and if you hold down a button a big highlighter circle appears and lets you pick clumps of units

Did anyone find the same things when they played it??? i'll still get game as i think the full game will have ways around the issues i had with the demo. perhaps its just me thats just stuck in my c&c way of doing things.

Did you REALLY play the demo? I played it and I am surprised at how they did it. AND its actually easy to navigate if you played the demo. The units, however true, do not get out the way, when other try to get past, that is true, but not game breaking.

Picking individual units was easy enough, the Spartans were wonderful to power up as well. It was easy to navigate, cool options and units for a console game looked surprisingly good, animation was cool even to the spartan jacking enemy vehicles, that game is fun. Select a group on screen (RB) and then you cycles between individual groups of unit types and to me that was highly needed and easy to do. What demo did u play? Yeah, I played damn near every rts out there even c&c and i liked that one too...Current and still favorite is Company of Heroes...

ENSEMBLE's attempt was DAMN good if you ask me and being a strict PC RTS player I was amazed it was actually that good (here's hoping that AI is harder though). I am going to TROUNCE Xbox Live players when this comes out cause they (Ensemble) have found a buyer in me. Hate to see them go but they know what the f@%k they are doing when it comes to rts's...

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the demo. I haven't played Age of Empires since the first one came out almost 10 years ago, but I think Ensemble stuck to the same basic addictive gameplay. I've never been much of a Halo fan; as a shooter, I find it rather generic. However I'm a sucker for sci-fi, and the story always interested me. Let's see.

All I really need to say is starcraft! lets see if this game is going to flop or not. There has been little talk from the game devs or little hype. So I can't picture this game to be really good!
