Hardware And Accessories Drive US Growth
Strong growth in sales of videogame hardware and accessories meant that the US market grew three per cent year on year in February, according to figures released by the NPD Group.
While software sales fell five per cent year on year to $601.4 million, hardware rose 10 per cent to $424.6 million, with sales of accessories growing by 22 per cent, to $210 million.
Points cards accounted for 22 per cent of accessory sales, a 52 per cent increase year on year, reflecting the increasing importance of digital distribution.
Xbox 360 was the best-selling system of the month, Microsoft’s console enjoying its best non-holiday month of sales.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops was once again the best-selling game of the month, and is now the best-selling US game in history, taking Wii Play’s record.
