Total hardware sales for the week ending Feb‭ ‬8‭ ‬have taken a fifth successive drop,‭ ‬according to data provided by Media Create.‭

Around‭ ‬146,876‭ ‬hardware units were sold at the retailers in‭ ‬Japan,‭ ‬representing a weekly decline of‭ ‬13%‭ ‬from the previous week’s sum of‭ ‬169,019.

All next-gen consoles,‭ ‬save for one,‭ ‬felt the drop,‭ ‬yet the chart arrangement hasn’t changed throughout‭ ‬2009.

Atop the list is Nintendo’s DSi,‭ ‬which was chopped by some six thousand units to reach a rate of‭ ‬49,529‭ – ‬the handheld’s lowest weekly figure yet.‭ ‬Sony’s PSP,‭ ‬however,‭ ‬fell further still‭; ‬dropping over nine thousand units to a weekly turnover rate of‭ ‬34,969.‭

For the first time the Wii is now in danger of ‬selling below the‭ ‬20,000‭ ‬mark in‭ ‬Japan.‭ ‬This week it dropped to‭ ‬20,412 after shedding some three thousand units from the week prior.‭ ‬Last week Edge documented the console’s‭ ‬worrying decline,‭ ‬with sales now falling by‭ ‬100,000‭ ‬units‭ ‬since the week ending Jan‭ ‬4.

The gap between the Wii and PS3‭ ‬is now its closest yet,‭ ‬at‭ ‬4,000‭ ‬units.‭ ‬Yet Sony’s Playstation‭ ‬3,‭ ‬which has shown encouraging buoyancy in recent weeks,‭ ‬saw sales drop this week as well‭; ‬falling to‭ ‬16,082.

The Xbox‭ ‬360,‭ ‬on the other hand,‭ ‬was able to hold the same sales rates as last week.‭ ‬In fact,‭ ‬sales for the console technically climbed‭; ‬up by around‭ ‬200‭ ‬units from last week.‭ ‬The system is still,‭ ‬however,‭ ‬selling at half the speed of its biggest rival.

Full list for the week ending Feb‭ ‬8‭ ‬according to Media Create:

DSI/  49,529
PSP/  34,969
Wii/  20,412
PS3/  16,082

Or does it prove that Microsoft has made a very good console?

With the upcoming final fantasy, I doubt the numbers will shrink much.

That's not all of it, because PS3 is a great console too, it just that they have been making the right desicions and Sony haven't. Bluray and HD as stadard has its benefits, but doesnt outweight the price point when the other console has the same quality in games for less.

The 360 hasn't even reached the million mark in the country. 8,311 isn't going to help much.

This is the kind of article that makes me think Edge is biased towards Microsoft. The 360 is holding at that level because it has no where to go but up. When its numbes start going up then make news about it until then it just shows that this site is manufacturing positive news for Microsoft.

Sales of the 360 rose in Japan to over 8,000 units. Which ever way you look at those number they are disappointing, don't think EDGE is making them look good, its more like a sarcasm, you know sarcasm right?

There's no BIAS in telling simple facts, PS3 is not doing great, Sony needs the price reduction ASAP, they are doing great on first party games and the console is pretty nice, but the price point doesnt compete with the 360's.

Or, it could have reported that the 360 had a positive increase in sales because.....well.....it did. Regardless of how well it did previous, where it's lifetime sales in the region are at, where it's weekly sales are at, the fact is, it did go up. And that's what they said.
