How Much Do Top Gaming Execs Earn?

Salaries of leading industry figures like Satoru Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto and Howard Stringer revealed.

According to various internet reports, the annual salaries of leading Japanese business figures have just been made publicly available.

That’s because companies are now required to disclose in shareholder reports which board members receive pay of over 100 million yen (£746,930), reports Asahi (via Andriasang).

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata receives a basic salary of 68 million yen (£508,212), rising to 187 million yen (£1.4m) with performance bonuses.

A group of six Nintendo board members - including Shigeru Miyamoto - are said to earn 100 million yen (£746,930) in total.

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada reportedly takes home 240 million yen (£1.79m), Sega Sammy Holdings CEO Osamu Satomi 435 million yen (£3.3m), Sony CEO Howard Stringer 816.5 million yen (£6.1m) and Namco Bandai Holdings president Kazunori Ueno 137 million yen (1m).

Game Developer Research released the key findings of its ninth annual Game Developer Salary Survey back in April, showing that the average mainstream game industry salary in the US was $75,573 in 2009, with executives earning $129,167 on average.
