Hydrophobia dev staff ‘unpaid for three months’

A representative of staff at Hydrophobia developer Dark Energy Digital claims the studio has not paid its employees for the last three months.

Following reports yesterday that the studio had called in administrators and was facing closure, a source purporting to be a representative of the 18 staff facing redundancy told Eurogamer that airing the situation in public would help staff get paid what they are owed.

"I believe if this information is publically known then it will help all those that are owed money to make a timely claim with the administrator before it can be fast-tracked using a prepack administration," the source said, adding that it appeared clear that the commercial and critical failure of Hydrophobia was behind the studios' woes.

"We believe DED will close down," the source added. "The failure of Hydrophobia is probably key to the financial troubles of the company. I believe the company has considerable debt and investors were put off by [it]."

Strong stuff, but it was quickly denied by several fellow employees who said the representative was not speaking on their behalf, with one saying: "The remaining employees at Dark Energy Digital are fully committed to ensuring the future success of this company, and are outraged at being falsely represented by this anonymous, cowardly troublemaker."
