Last week’s move by Bethesda parent ZeniMax Media to acquire id Software will allow the Doom creator to expand its development operations to work on an unannounced new project.

"They have a team working on Rage, which will be published by EA next year, and they have a second team working on Doom 4," Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines told TechRadar.

"They'd like to start building up a full third team and, as a result of this deal, they'll be able to do that more quickly than they could have previously with the additional resources they have to work with now."

Last week id CEO Todd Hollenshead added of the buyout: “Things aren't really going to be different in terms of what's going on at id. We're not going to change the kinds of games we make… It allows us to accelerate the growth of our internal studios, so we can focus on making all of our internal games as opposed to working with external partners where there has been a step down in quality."

Either I see it to believe it

OR

The buyout has already decreased the quality of future games, such as crap voice-acting and RPG elements where there is still a reliance on close combat.

I donot think it will decrease the quality of Betheseda as 2 they are pretty much independent.

And John Carmack has always been very serious about independence, and he has the money to buy id back if he wants, he just wanted a publisher with least hassle in any way, so he is free to do what he wants to do, he is just a very different man then any othe game development company head, read his wikipedia page and u will see he is strange, read his comments on sights, interviews, view his actions till now, he seems to be evil, capable, genius, smart, businessman, good all at once.
Remember already Bungie severed from Microsoft when they saw danger to there independence. Not all comapnies and people are saleable and killable like EA subsidiaries. Bioware joined(not joining by choice) with mythic forceably by EA. Already I see the decline of Bioware. They leave there core competency single player RPG, and step in the new territory of MMORPG(they admit it is very hard for them) , and try to topple WOW there, which already many have tried and failed. Arguably 80 % people playing WOW will not leave it on impusle and that is already a huge amount of playing customer base, also there are not so much star wars fan in WOW community.

As it stands now Betheseda and id are poised to work seperately, only publish united, will trandfer ideas across the board(Bioware also claimed that EA will not touch them, and now we see who is the master, still id is different). Anyway Betheseda is not EA and id is not Bioware.
It will be better if id keeps pusihng Quake and Rage like games, what they better, and Betheseda making RPGs(Fallout 3 was good atleast) and improving, while zenimax(Betheseda publishing division) keeps itself to publishing. Otherwise I am sure id will be back again independent. ajority of companies who were bought out were not able to fund them back out to be independent, Bungie and id is not in such a problem.
RPG programmers will take technical ideas from id but obviously RPG programming is different then Quake like FPS. If they make a combine team and try to blend teh 2 genres, then there is a lot chance for wrong things(STALKER has done this quite right though)

Fair enough, didn't look at it like that.
