Indie Game: The Movie to be shown at Sundance

Indie Game: The Movie, a documentary about independent videogame development, will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

The film, which features Super Meat Boy creators Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, Fez developer Phil Fish, and Braid creator Jonathan Blow, has been named an official selection in the World Documentary category at the annual celebration of independent filmmaking.

"Sundance is one of the top film festivals in the world and the premier showcase for independent cinema," reads a post on the film's official website announcing the news. "We are exceptionally thrilled, humbled and, actually kind of numbed by this honour."

Indie Game: The Movie was, appropriately given its subject matter, created by just two people, James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot from Winnipeg, Canada, with music by Jim Guthrie, composer of the soundtrack to Superbrothers: Sword And Sworcery EP. The project was part-funded through the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

The Sundance Film Festival runs from January 19-29 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After its Sundance showing, Indie Game: The Movie will be screened in the creators' hometown of Winnipeg. A screening tour will follow before it is released on DVD and as a digital download in 2012.
