SCEA has revealed that Sucker Punch Productions’ PS3 action game, Infamous, has sold over 1.2 million copies at retail as of October 2009.

“We’d like to send out congratulations to Sucker Punch Productions as Infamous has sold over 1.2 million copies as of October 2009,” said Asad Qizilbash, SCEA marketing manager, who added that “Just in time for the holidays, we’re excited to announce that infamous is now available for $39.99.”

Evidence recently emerged that a sequel to Infamous is in the works via voice actor David Sullivan who Tweeted he was auditioning for the lead role of Cole in a sequel. "First voiceover/motion capture audition today for a video game. Re-casting of Cole in the sequel of Infamous. 'I'll melt your face.' e.g," he said.

The Tweet was later removed with Sony stating, “We have made no announcements in regards to the Infamous franchise."

I thought it was a great game and I hope it gets a sequel (this is my second favorite PS3 exclusive behind Uncharted 2).

However, 1.2 million worldwide sales after over 6 months is embarrassing for a high-profile exclusive. One look at how the exclusives from the competition do, in comparison, shows why Sony still struggles to make a profilt from this division. If you can't get a good attach rate even from your own exclusives the prospects of turning a profit using this model aren't very good.

Totally agree. It appears as though Sony couldnt sell water in a desert this generation.
This is a shame as the PS3 has some great exclusive titles, but it also has so many other little features that would make it a great addition to any digital savvy family's TV cabinet. Features that go beyond gaming.
I think Infamous is another example as it was a good game worth pushing but Sony's PR dept failed to make create any mainstream awareness of it.

Sorry, are you saying that Sony has a PR dept, I had thought all the TV commericals were designed by kids from primary school.
Your saying Sony have been playing people for the ads

You're welcome, Kaz Hirai.

This is a game, like 'Assassin's Creed', which would have benefited from being half as long as it is. There's simply too much repetition in the side missions so it ultimately gets quite boring after a while.

You don't have to do side-missions. That's why they're side missions. That's one of the weirdest things about those criticisms of Assassin's Creed 1.

I had a tough time trying to revisit Crackdown recently after being spoiled by Infamous. Crackdown 2 had better step up its game!
