Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling says that developers should play a crucial role in the marketing and PR activities surrounding their games.

“We know everything there is to know about Modern Warfare 2,” Bowling told MCV. “Not only do we know the game but we know the gamer. We know what to expect from them and what they expect from us. So it helps us guide design decisions and decisions overall, including with PR.

“I think it is essential for developers to have that power. I don’t think any developer should not have control of how their game is presented or marketed or communicated. And they should take control of that a lot, lot more. It is why I started the Twitter account in the first place.”

Earlier this year Bowling set up a Twitter page and asked users what they would like to see in the upcoming Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, generating thousands of responses. He has continued to frequently update fans of the series about the game’s status on his fourzerotwo Twitter account and blog.

Last week he had the unenviable task of responding to over 100,000 PC gamers unhappy about Infinity Ward’s decision to drop dedicated server support for more console-like matchmaking in the PC version of Modern Warfare 2.
