Apple has all but confirmed plans to announce iPad 3 by sending out invitations to a press event taking place next week.
The event will be held at 6pm GMT on March 7 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, where Apple also introduced the first two iPad models.
While the press invitation does not mention iPad 3 specifically, it shows a partial picture of the touchscreen of a device resembling an iPad. "We have something you really have to see. And touch," it says.
Apple sold 15.43 million iPads during the three months ended December 31, 2011, helping drive record quarterly net profit of $13.06 billion. Commenting on the results in January, CEO Tim Cook said: “Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline."
