Cambridge-based developer and publisher Jagex has placed 22nd on the annual Tech Track 100 league table, which ranks Britain's fastest-growing private technology companies based on sales growth over a three year period.

“Sales have grown 84 per cent a year from £5.2m in 2005 to £32.3m in 2008,” said Fast Track, the research and networking events company which has compiled the list for the past nine years.

Jagex is the firm behind casual MMO Runescape, which it claims is the world’s largest free online game with more than ten million registered users.

The company - which was founded in 2001 and currently employs 369 staff - has bolstered its executive ranks this year with the appointments of Mark Gerhard as CEO, Rob Smith as chief operating officer and Sensible Software co-founder Jon Hare as head of publishing.

“At Jagex we are passionate about the games we make and the technology we have created to develop and deliver our games; creating fun is just part of our DNA,” said Gerhard. “This drives us to innovate daily, make great games and fuels our pioneering R&D spirit in terms of tech. We work on the basis ‘there is nothing we can’t do given our talented staff and a little time’. Our values and passion have allowed us to grow one of the largest player communities in the world.”
