Japan: DSi And Wii Fight Back

Nintendoís portable and home systems leapfrog Sonyís in the weekly rankings, while Xbox 360 sales fall below PS2ís.

The DSi, DS Lite and Wii were the only systems to record sales increases in Japan during the week ended May 10 as Nintendo platforms launched a fightback.

Having been trumped by PSP for several weeks running, a sales boost saw the DSi comfortably outperform Sony’s handheld, while sales of the older DS Lite also remained healthy.

Meanwhile, after playing second fiddle to its rival over the past two months, Nintendo's Wii bounced back to outsell Sony's PS3 by just shy of 6,000 units.

At the bottom end of the rankings the ageing PS2 jumped ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, according to sales monitor Media Create.

DSi – 55,382
PSP – 43,009
Wii – 24,397

PS3 – 18,483
DS Lite – 7,821
PS2 – 5,137

Xbox 360 – 5,068
