The order of hardware popularity remains the same, with the DSi significantly outselling the competition, this week landing 173,693 sales (up from 126,648). Nintendo’s other major unit, the Wii, also enjoyed a sales boost as its weekly turnover climbed from some 56,000 to 91,641. This is in part driven by sales of the top-selling game in the software charts, Taiko no Tatsujin Wii, which debuted at around 106,000 units sold. Animal Crossing: City Folk also sold close to 100,000 sales in the same week.
The Wii’s continued climb marks the second week in a row that a TV console has outperformed a handheld in Japan, as Sony’s PSP – though climbing from 54,782 to 71,540 – is falling behind the market share Nintendo is enjoying. Last week, the Wii outsold the PSP by about 2,000 units, this week it outsells Sony’s handheld by some 20,000.
PS3 sales are steady, hovering at 33,688. The console continues to outsell Microsoft’s box by a ratio of 3:1.
The 360 itself climbs in sales by about 1,000 units, though pulls further away from the original DS Lite, which itself saw a boost in sales from 12,000 to 31,120.
