Microsoft’s Xbox 360 scored a notable victory in Japan during the week ended August 10, shifting almost 25,000 units to outsell the PS3 2.5-1.
The console’s jump in popularity – it sold 5,359 units the previous week - was no doubt fueled by the release of Namco Bandai’s Tales of Vesperia, which debuted at No4 in the software chart after selling 108,000 copies.
Nintendo’s DS topped the hardware chart, according to sales data compiled by Media Create, overtaking the long-running bestseller, Sony’s PSP, although just 2,000 sales separated the handheld pair.
Nintendo’s Wii was comfortably the bestselling home console once again, moving 38,000 units, followed by the Xbox 360.
The PS3, which racked up just shy of 10,000 sales, held onto its narrow lead over its predecessor.
Nintendo DS - 60,434
PSP - 58,501
Wii - 38,506
Xbox 360 - 24,962
PlayStation 3 - 9,673
PlayStation 2 - 8,503

Funny week. Just like the MGS4 week for the PS3, this won't last very long.

Well, its been confirmed that FF XIII will be realeased in some Asian territories and with the impressive sales numbers of Japanese RPGs in Japan maybe that will give Square Incentive to release it in Japan as well. That's one of their more loyal territories and to hold a game back just to help Sony out in Japan is just silly.
I thought the ground felt colder this morning. I hope those folks in hell got a parka handy
Now there's some news..!
Holy hand grenade.
Oh yes finally, thank you!
We have proof positive that RPG's can break through xenophobia.
Cheers, here's to many more MS!
Hopefully this can slowly show japanese gamers that its ok to touch an american system.
And of course we all know that Sony would suffer big losses on PS3 FF XIII related sales if FF XIII were allowed on 360 in japan, given that 360 is the cheaper console there as well.
