Japanese iPad 2 Launch Delayed

Due to launch next week, Apple delays tablet indefinitely as Japan recovers from Tohoku earthquake.

Apple has confirmed that it has postponed the launch of the iPad 2 in Japan as the country continues to recover from last Friday’s Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

The firm told the BBC that its new tablet, which was originally set for release in Japan on March 25, has now been delayed indefinitely.

Spokesperson Natalie Kerris said: “We are delaying the launch of the iPad 2 in Japan while the country and our teams focus on recovering from the recent disaster.”

Apple has been taking donations for the American Red Cross through the iTunes store, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to the charity to help fund the relief effort.

The iPad 2 was released in the US last Friday, and will be available in the UK next Friday, March 25.
