PS3 sales continued to fall in Japan during the week ended August 30, while DS hardware and software again dominated the charts.

Sales of Sony’s next-gen console almost halved to 1,040 units, but they are expected to rebound in time for next week’s rankings following the Japanese launch of the PS3 Slim yesterday.

DSi remained ahead of the chasing pack with 59,881 units sold, more than double the total of its nearest rival, the PSP, which was closely followed by the Wii.

DS Lite sales marginally outpaced those of Xbox 360, while the PS2 and PS3 rounded off the hardware chart.

Nintendo’s Tomodachi Collection for DS retained the top spot on the software chart, while Dragon Quest IX was also a non-mover at number two. Wii Sports Resort was up two places to third, ahead of the week’s highest new entry, D3 Publisher’s Dream C Club for Xbox 360.

Four other titles made top ten debuts. Namco Bandai’s Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny for PSP and Super Robot Gakuen for DS placed sixth and seventh respectively, Nintendo’s You'll Incur Losses If You Remain Ignorant: How Money And Things Work DS charted in eighth, and Idea Factory’s Hakuouki: Zuisouroku for PS2 placed tenth.
